On December 5, 2011, the opening day of Cai Guo-Quiang’s groundbreaking exhibit, Cai Guo-Quiang: Saraab, at Mathaf, the Arab Museum of Modern Art, he set off a grand-scale explosive event, using microchip-controlled explosives. This daytime firework marvel displayed astonishing artistic designs and patterns in the sky. Luckily, for those of us who were unable to attend this phenomenal occurrence, Cai Studio has released this dramatic video of the event, called “Black Ceremony”. A video taken by a spectator at the event, which was featured by Gizmodo. Saarab will be on display until May 26, 2012. Quiang’s exhibit explores historic relationships between China and the ancient Arab world. See this PDF for a complete description of the exhibit.
