Television Lets You Reach Inside, Control the Action

You remember Wonkavision from Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory, right? Well that portal like ability to reach in and manipulate things inside your television has just become reality… or pretty close. Media student Jayne Vidheecharoen from the Art Center College of Design in California has designed a prototype TV that converts physical hands into virtual ones when users put them in the back of the television, allowing them to manipulate what’s on the screen. Realistic Insects Made From One Sheet of Uncut Paper

Even with a second glance, these amazingly intricate origami designs by Brian Chan still look like real insects. The 31-year old has been working with paper since his youth, making other’s designs and perfecting is craft. In recent years he’s started creating his own designs, carefully planning exactly where folds need to be in a flat sheet of paper… transforming it into a miniature, lifelike sculpture. Each design remixes the original, replacing their name with something more closely representing a stereotype behind what the company really brings to the world. Bill Gates has credit for a lot of things. Even after Microsoft, he continues to push the limits of giving with his Gates Foundation, but what about all of the other incredible people that made Microsoft the technology behemoth that it is? Where are all the other incredible minds from the company now? Former Microsoft Chief Technology Officer, Nathan Myhvold, like Gates, is pursuing some mind boggling endeavors in his post Microsoft life. He holds degrees in math­e­mat­ics, geo­physics, and space physics from UCLA, and PhDs in math­e­mat­i­cal eco­nom­ics and the­o­ret­i­cal physics from Princeton University. Besides starting successful invention incubator Intellectual Ventures, he has nearly 250 patents issued or pending of his own.  Many of those patents are related to food technology, which has led to his publication of Modernist Cuisine: The Art of Science and Cooking.  The incredible tome is a 2,438 page, six-volume set of books set out to “reinvent cooking.” [Read more...]
