Pictured above is an aged, and slightly freaky looking Mark Zuckerberg. Why? Because today we bring you a Ted Talk by Daniel Goldstein that explores the battle between your present and future self, looking at ways we look at the future and how those ways of thinking have power over our lives. We’ve also included a video from Goldstein’s co-author Hal Hershfield talking about wrinkles and your wallet.

Every day, we make decisions that have good or bad consequences for our future selves. (Can I skip flossing just this one time?) Daniel Goldstein makes tools that help us imagine ourselves over time, so that we make smart choices for Future Us. Daniel Goldstein: The battle between your present and future self.

Wrinkles and your wallet:

Afraid of wrinkles? Get over it, because you’ll probably be seeing yourself covered in them the next time you sit down with your financial adviser. Hal Hershfield, assistant professor at NYU Stern School of Business, tells Reuters’ Money Editor Lauren Young that visual aids make a difference when it comes to planning for the future. Wrinkles and your wallet.
