Bieke Depoorter is not like other travel photographers out there in the world. For a period of three months, Bieke traveled on the Trans-Siberian Express, the longest train route in the world which spans from Russia to Beijing, China. During this time she carried a note with her that said this:

“I am looking for a place to spend the night. Do you know people who would have a bed, or a couch? I don’t need anything in particular, and I have a sleeping-bag. I prefer not to stay in a hotel, because I don’t have a lot of money and because I want to see the way people live in Russia. Could I stay at your place, perhaps? Thank you very much for your help!”

Through sharing this note she stayed at a number of places along the train route in Siberia and took photos of daily life along the way. She titled the photography series “Ou Menia.” Russian for “With Me.”

Here are some photos from her amazing journey.

  3. @Alex I’m American, and I like the pictures. I didn’t find them depressing or anything. Actually, I liked that they portrayed people in the midst of their ordinary lives. She did a good job of capturing daily life.
