Linear Simplicity in Turner Classic Movie Posters

These minimalist movie posters have such elegant continuity of design, leaving much to the imagination while also being easily recognizable. UK based graphic designer Dale Peart was contacted by Turner Classic Movies and asked to create posters for any three of their iconic films, to be used as a set… it took him no time to choose his favorite three movies to represent: Aliens, No Country For Old Men and Inception. Helping to build a visual link between each poster, he used a linear theme, drawing one important aspect of each film.

In creating the linear elements of each poster, Peart symbolically represented aspects of the films. For Alien, it was the pipes of the Nostromo spaceship, a place where the alien hides and then shockingly attacks. In No Country for Old Men, he used a towering representation of a Texas city skyline combined with the films infamous cattle gun. For Inception, possibly the most obvious of the three posters, he represents the many layers of the films dream worlds with the captive dreamers trapped in the center. 1. Should be Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, not Inception :)
