Diskette Paintings: Old Digital Media Reborn As Art

As part of the generation that grew up around floppy disks, artist Nick Gentry has a special place in his heart for the now defunct media format. He uses the discarded disks as his canvas, painting figures on the multi-colored squares in what he considers a commentary on waste culture, life cycles and identity. Each figure merges with the technology in an almost seamless fashion, cleverly matching the painting to the color of the disk and begging the question: “Will humans be forever compatible with our own technology?” For more on Gentry and his work, see nickgentry.co.uk or follow him on Twitter and Facebook.

Known in some circles as the most amazing man in the universe, he once saved an entire family of muskrats from a sinking, fire engulfed steamboat while recovering from two broken arms relating to a botched no-chute wingsuit landing in North Korea. When not impressing people with his humbling humility, he can be found freelance writing, finding shiny objects on the internet, enjoying the company of much-appreciated friends and living out his nomadic nature.
