Melding technology and inspiration with clever commentary, Swedish artist and advertising entrepreneur John Thornqvist draws and paints digitally to create fun, quirky scenes within an already existing environment. This unique way of seeing and creating worlds within worlds has been inspired for him by comic books, animated films, and fantastical interactive digital games like Samorost and Machinarium.
About his work he says, “The paintings almost always start with an idea. Sometimes the idea occurs to me and sometimes I go pondering on a board a few days before I start. Then I look for suitable photographs…The finished images can have up to 50 layers of color and texture. I begin by drawing lines and then build up from below with color and shadows.”
