It’s the childhood dream of many girls to become a Disney princess… and now photographer Ryan Astamendi is giving a few grown women the chance. His series of surprisingly accurate photographs puts models into pitch perfect costume, makeup and hair to create what looks like the movie screen come to life. As you will see in the photographs below, the models vary in their real-life likeness to the characters, proving that Astamendi is skillful at creating the look he desires.

Astamendi says of the sleeping beauty photo shoot, “I put between 30 and 40 hours of work into this, which seems to be the norm for these Disney character projects.” What really surprised him about the project? The models name was actually… Princess!

What’s next in the series? He’s currently finishing up work on Rapunzel. Be sure to check out his website RyPhoto for future updates or see the the book The Art of the Disney Princess which features his work. And one more thing: not every girl wants to be a princess… so we included Astamendi’s stunning rendition of the seductive Jessica Rabbit.

Yep, not every girl wants to be a princess… so here’s Astamendi’s imaginative rendition of seductive Jessica Rabbit from Who Framed Roger Rabbit.

Up next for Astamendi? Rapunzel is in the works… and this model is unique: she actually works as Rapunzel at Disneyland!

  1. Why isn’t Snow White white? Lol these are cool though :)

  2. this is great …love the side by sides.

  3. These are really amazing.

    .

P.S. Please have Jessica Rabbit email me.

  4. Why is Snow White Mexican? Did the photographer not understand the first part of her name? Or the second?

  5. Its so realistic! Their features bear a striking resemblance to the cartoon characters.

  6. This is also one of my dreams, to be one of my favorite disney princess in a picture.

  7. Wow your pictures are amazing! And I couldn’t stop laughing at your description: When not impressing people with his humbling humility! Haha ! ! love it! Keep up the good work! See you around on FB I’m sure!

  8. Wow! What a lot of fun! Great portraiture and fun subject. Hope I can find you in other places on the web!

  9. Starr has done a great job with the princesses.

  10. nice…i saved the pic to my computer and using them as my screen saver…
    :)

  11. @Megan and StayClassy4chan – you are both tools. First of all, StayClassy4chan (you obviously have none by your comment) how do you even know that the model is Mexican? She could be an number of ethnicities. Second, Snow White takes place in Germany, so she would be GERMAN, not “white”, you ignorant troll. I thought we had established that COLORS are not RACES.

and who the hell cares if she ISN’T German!? Great photos. I especially love Aurora and Jasmine. THAT is what I expect to see at Disneyland…not the ones they actually have. There is magic in these ones =)

  12. to everyone commenting about Snow White’s model not being white: obviously! But that’s why there’s photoshop, which they obviously used, and it turned out fine.

My biggest issue is that with the way the Tangeled model is sitting, it looks like she has a tiny torso and itty-bitty legs. I had to do a triple-take to see what was going on there, lol.

But really, these are all gorgeous. We see a lot of the princesses brought to real-life, I think it’d be cool to see the princes, villians (for villians, I do know a few have been done), and other notable characters as well (but maybe that’s just me).

  13. Snow White is named Snow White because of her white skin. In the picture above, she obviously has white SKIN. Mexican’s can have white skin. I mean, she could’ve been Asian for all we know. I myself have always pictured Snow White as Asian because of her black hair (;

  14. Snow White is my favorite. Love your bio/about me, very impressive.

  15. Why is Pocahontas Asian? She’s supposed to be Native American…

  16. these are amazing (:

p.s. to everybody that has a problem with snow white being not white? if you look at the pictures he uses foundation so she looks white. it still works..

  17. Some people need to stop getting fixated on the model not matching up to the skin color they think the character should be. You are why your children are racist.

The pictures are gorgeous and all are strongly similar to the appearances of the animated characters.

  18. I’m a redhead, do you need a model for ariel? I know she’s not a princess until the end, but it still counts right?

  19. You have done a good job. the first one is my favorite

  20. @Wtf who cares if the model is Asian, she looks IDENTICAL to the character she’s supposed to be representing, especially her lips. I always wondered why Disney made Pocahontas look the way she did…to me she actually looked more Asian than anything, maybe Hawaiian.

  21. Snow white is one of the best photographed, I can’t believe anybody even opened their mouth about her not looking “white enough”. She played snow white PERFECTLY, and she should be extremely proud of herself.

  22. I think those false eyelashes ruin Snow White’s image…

  23. The models in these shots have done inspiringly well, portraying the characters they have been cast and chosen to represent. The photographer deserves kudos for his ART and the people who are criticizing this beautiful artistic photography… YOU DO IT THEN!!!!

  24. umm jessica rabbit isn’t a disney princess

  25. I agree with AnnieCakes! :)
    Ryan Astamendi (the photographer)

  26. FANTASTIC!! They are all PERFECT!

  27. Pocahontas is my fave. Beautiful girl.

  28. These are really amazing! I’ve always wanted to be a Disney princess, and work down in disney, and it’s wonderful to see how much you make these girls look so close to the characters! Amazing!!!

  29. What about Belle!!!! Beautiful photos, truly incredible.

  30. I’d like to see him do one of Ariel!

  31. very creative love this kind of photography/art!

  32. Meg are you retarded?
Or did you just not bother to read?
    It clearly says
“And one more thing: not every girl wants to be a princess… so we included Astamendi’s stunning rendition of the seductive Jessica Rabbit.”

  33. All of them are great except for Snow White. Her name is snow WHITE because her skin was white as snow…and the chick is tan. Boo.

  34. can i please get jessica rabbits #

  35. WOW! those pics are pretty amazing. and when a woman looks that good it doesn’t matter what race or color she is. she could be green, purple, or fudge ripple. and i wouldn’t care!

  36. you people talking about snow white are racists they are wonderful photographs thats all that matters.

  37. great work

  38. i imagine the “not white enough” people are from somewhere in the midwest where they’ve never seen anyone of color. just because you’re kinda brown doesn’t mean you’re mexican you ignorant trolls. the whole point is to recreate disney princesses in a picture, so take the stick out of your ass and take the damn picture for what it is. white people need to get over themselves.

  39. “Why isn’t Snow White white? Lol these are cool though.”

Because the photographer wanted to confuse racists.

  40. What beautiful photography. Jasmine and Pocoahontas are stunning women!

  41. OOOOOooo the Jasmine one is just astonishing! Really, really fantastic. Bravo!

  42. i thought its a real picture and they are going to make a film

  43. Captured the the characters!

  44. Can I be Ariel? :)

  45. These are Beautiful!!! I want to be a Princess too! <3

  46. The article says “As you will see in the photographs below, the models vary in their real-life likeness to the characters, proving that Astamendi is skillful at creating the look he desires.”

So that there would be the reason Snow White is not “white” when she’s without costume. Part of the art was to make these women look like these character regardless if they did without the costume and makeup.

I think he did a beautiful job, especially with Snow White, she’s gorgeous!

  47. I always wanted to be a disneyland princess

  48. I love this project!!! People shouldn’t be criticizing the photographer! If you don’t like it don’t look at it!! Its that simple!
Great job…my favorite was Jasmine and Pocahontas ;) Keep up the good work!

  49. WoW! The ladies are just so elegant & classy looking – not to mention gorgeous :)
