Todays Gangs Are Boring! Free 70′s Documentary

Wearing styles that would get them in deep trouble today, this classic documentary 80 Blocks From Tiffany’s covers the bad ass street gangs of late 70’s New York. Although there are many interviews, the film mainly focuses on two groups, the Savage Skulls and the Savage Nomads of the South Bronx. Is it just us or have gangs gotten a little more savage?

From Vice:

“80 Blocks From Tiffany’s was made in 1979 by Gary Weis, who used to make shorts for Saturday Night Live back in the good old days. If you’re at all interested in gang culture, you’ve probably already seen it, or at least heard of it. It was originally released in 1985 but was, for most of its existence, really, really hard to find.”

Not anymore! Here it is in it’s full VHS glory:

  1. Savage Mikeysays:

so i seen 80 blocks from tiffany like 100 times and every time i watch it i fell in love all over again. I am a Savage Nomad, yes we are still out and yes we are still as strong as we were back in the 70’s, and i really don’t think we are going any where no time soon. we been out since 1969 and it is 2011 going into 2012 so you do the math. and all i know is the Savage Nomads life. just thought i would say that.
