TED Talks: What does it mean to “BE A MAN”

Highlighting the drastic changes that are occurring in society centering around the roles of the sexes, the people at TED Talks recently organized a series titled TEDWomen. This series of talks highlight the ways that women are now shaping the world in ever greater ways; bringing new insights and perspectives to both the business and domestic front. Today, we bring you five videos from the series starting with a talk by Tony Porter on what it really means to be a man.

Tony Porter explains why acting like a “man” can often lead to disrespect of women and other men. He recalls moving stories from is own life as he calls for men to step outside the “man box.”

Hanna Rosin reviews data that shows women surpassing men in several important measures, including college graduation rates and percentage of managers in the work force. This drastic shift in society and the roles of the sexes is definitely food for thought.

Halla Tomasdottir took her company Audur Capital through the bleak Icelandic financial collapse by applying five, traditionally “feminine,” values to financial services.

Kiran Bedi is Director General of the Indian Police Service, but before that she managed one of the country’s toughest prisons. During her career she helped to change the prison into a center for learning and meditation by applying a focus on prevention and education.

Diana Laufenberg shares three insights about teaching while using modern technology to help her kids get the most of their information.
